We are two physically fit couples in our 60s who enjoyed an exciting afternoon rafting on the Exploit River! Erica, the owner of Rafting Newfoundland, customized our own personal adventure. After we were fitted with wet suits, water shoes and helmets, we entered the river with our experienced guide, Sand. Our journey began with a gentle float down the scenic river where we were most fortunate to spot a moose on the shoreline. Soon, the excitement began and Sand lead us through several areas of white water rapids! It was so exciting and so much fun! At one point, I did think I was going to fall out of the raft but Sandâs expertise kept everyone on board. Sand is not only a very knowledgeable rafter but has a most engaging personality that kept our group in laughter all the time we were on the river. Sand also used his waterproof camera to take many memorable pictures of our adventure. After conquering the rapids, we enjoyed a very delicious charcuterie board prepared by Erica. The fruit, cheeses, meats, bread and chocolate were all scrumptious!
This was one of our âbest days everâon our Newfoundland vacation. Thank you Rafting Newfoundland and Sand for providing us with this most wonderful adventure!

Had a Blast with two families in one Raft. We all enjoyed every moment of the trip. The weather was excellent, sunny through out the whole trip. the guides were excellent with the kids and very skilled paddlers. We went in early July the water was still chilly so highly recommend the wet suits. Next time I am booking three nights in the chalet and doing all the rafting runs. If you live on the coast of NL and want to central sunshine this is the place to go!

Not extreme - 5 hours of cruising down the river, with a couple of short sections of class 2 and 3 rapids. If you're after an extreme experience, this is not for you. Great cruisey day in the sunshine in and on the water. Family friendly.
Life jackets, helmets and splash jackets provided. Starts with a quick tutorial of paddling strokes and safety stuff, then you're off cruising. Guide uses the current of the river for most of the trip so you're not constantly paddling.
Our tour had enough people for 2 boats, so the family's with younger kids were put in 1 raft and the other had the adults. Adult boat got a little extra from the rapids.
Lots of 'checkpoints' to break up the rafting. 2x snack breaks, many swimming locations, a chance to jump off the rocks into the rapids, rock climbing and a rapid surfing spot that holds the raft in place for some great photos. Even saw a baby eagle, a loon and a few salmon swimming upstream.
Guides were really entertaining and shared some stories of the region and past funny tour experiences.
BBQ is served afterwards at around 4pm, so make sure you have a big breakfast / early lunch to get yourself through.
Bit pricey. Was $250 total for 2 adults, plus $20 for the photos. Would have given 5 stars if it was cheaper, or photos were included.

First off, follow their Facebook page deals on rafting and accommodations as well as their giveaways. Book in advance when you can or be disappointed morning of when they're full.
We planned on going when we were driving across the island to St John's but they were booked. Luckily, we ran into a guide at the George St Festival and they were giving away free tickets so we turned around and went back to GFW.
We did the simpler raft trip that included snacks and a BBQ on return. Snacks were ample for the number of people on our trip (cheese, hummus, carrots, pineapple, cantaloupe, crackers, oat bars) and the BBQ had burgers, dogs, and sausage (please tell me the brand and where to get those).
It was a lazy float down the river for a bit with just a few rapids thrown in for fun. We happened upon a male moose grazing at the shore and I heard talk of an otter or something but I was busy admiring the rocks. We didn't bring our phones so I only have pics of before and we haven't downloaded pics of the during yet. It's 20 bucks for photos but worth it as both guides take pics so, if one loses their camera in a tough spot, there's still pics from the other guy. You can't tell me photos aren't worth 20 bucks to not lose your phone and whatever kid du jour hit a milestone since your last backup not to mention your current mahjong level.
Our guide was excellent as well as the guide on the other raft even though neither knew how the Exploits River received it's name. Our guide was very calming and reassuring even during what would have been a stressful situation for anyone else. He was excellent in explaining the safety measures, teaching us rescue methods, dead on with throwing the rope to swimmers that found themselves in a pinch, and generally funny and cool. I'll also add that both guides were pretty easy on the eyes. That's always a bonus.
PS. If anyone from Rafting Newfoundland reads this, please tell me the brand of sausage and how to get one of those shirts. I wanted one but spaced on asking before we left.

Tour was great. Did the Badger Chute route with the family and it was wonderful. Staff added some good adventure for those of us that wanted more, and some great spots to jump into the rapids. Lunch was meh and they forgot water, so everyone was thirsty. Would recommend

Such an amazing experience.
The guides were amazing and knowledgeable. The whole team was super friendly. Can't wait to go again in summer when getting wet will be even more enjoyable.
10 out of 10.
Highly recommend anyone try it. They have "Vanilla" tours for people who aren't that adventurous.
