Been going to Beauchene for 30 years and keep coming back due to the fishing and remote cabin (Birch Lake). You book a lake ( there are more than 30) and it's yours for the day. Tony runs a great organization, makes sure everyone has a good adventure.

I have visited Reserve Beauchene a few times in the past twenty years. I used to be a fishing writer for several different sportfishing magazines. The old reserve used to be rustic, but clean and the fishing excellent. I took my son to experience what I had remembered.|The new Beauchene is a let down. The fishing was no better than I can find in thousands of Ontario lakes and rivers. Accommodation was good until I moved a chair for a dropped fly and realized only the main floor in the cabins are cleaned but forget under furniture.|The food was awful! They have a chef, a smoker, never trust a chef that smokes, their taste buds are shot. They serve one dinner meal a day like it or not, that's what you get. I was served pork shank the first night on a bed of rice. I would never order this meal anywhere. Asking for a second choice there was none. When asked what I was supposed to do if I was Jewish they were shocked and had no answer. There was no other food available, not even leftovers.|On another evening I found out I was being served a food I am allergic to so I asked for a simple hamburger and some fries. NOPE no can do, chef said there were no buns and he wasn't going to make some just for me.|At my request on ANOTHER seafood night I requested beef. I was served a grey steak on yet another bed of rice. At these prices I expect to be able to eat the food. Back in the day they offered always two choices and there was lots of food. Seems the chefs wishes overrule the guests.||Owner operators asked regularly how things were going and when told actually interrupted my responses several times ignoring me, or making excuses.||This has now become a rich persons resort in place to support the more than 20 millionaires that own it and have cabins of their own. This is no longer the sportsmans paradice it had been for 100 years. It is now just flashy hotel in the bush.

And we can't forget Harry our guide that put us on fish with a great sense of humor

I have been to Beauchene in the past few times back in the early 2000s. Back then it was a nice fishing lodge, a choice of great food to eat and the fishing was spectacular. I wrote articles on the reserve for a couple of magazines and did a show with Bob Izumi there. I took my son there to experience a once in a lifetime trip,it was dismal. Gone to big boats and motors you can't troll with. Back lakes have big new spanky boats, nice but catch the wind and are very heavy when putting them in and out of lakes. Food was mediocre and you got what the cook made with no choices. What we did eat was not as good as my local Montanas. Fishing was awful. Can't control the fish but last three times I was there I couldn't not catch fish. They have been messing with the fish stocks and the quality of the fishing experience has plummeted. The new lodge is beautiful but I don't pay that kind of money for good looks. I won't recomend this lodge for serious fishermen. Not worth the money.

This is an amazing location!! I went here as a business trip with from my office.. this is a great location for someone who is fond of fishing. They have a variety of fish in a huge area. If you don’t want to fish, they have other activities like boating, cycling and hiking!! We had a little stay there and their cabins are super comfortable and well maintained. The restaurant’s food is amazing I loved their soups the most!! Definitely give this place a visit..

I was looking for a "special" fishing resort to celebrate my son's high school graduation and 18th birthday and came across the Beauchene web site in my google searching. Having visited various fishing resorts every year for the past 6 years with my son, I really wanted to find a place that was more than a run of the mill place, or just a fancy web page with great marketing text, somewhere where the fishing was actually good, where there were several species available and species that we didn't typically fish for as we do live on the Ottawa River. Now granted the fishing anywhere in July is going to be tough going, but this is our typical window for a Father Son getaway. ||||Our initial plan was to book one of the Beauchene Outpost camps, do our own cooking and have a typical fishing camp / resort experience. The outpost camp we wanted was booked, so we decided to book the Fox cabin which was an all-inclusive plan only. The cost was significantly higher than we typically incur, but it was all inclusive, gas/boat included and it was a special occasion. In the weeks leading up to our arrival we exchanged a number of emails with Tony, the General Manager at Beauchene. He was always very helpful and insightful as it related to our questions about fishing.||||The trip to Beauchene from the Ottawa area was quite easy, all highway to Temiscaming and then about 20 minutes over a well-maintained gravel road. Upon arrival I was a little surprised by the size of the Fox cabin, I knew it was a split unit, but it was smaller than I expected. Basically 3 single beds, 2 chairs facing the lake, a small beer fridge and a well-appointed bathroom. It was nice to find a fan in the unit. As time went on the size wasn’t a issue, we utilized the reasonable sized deck off the front door for both storage and sitting out in the evening.||||General Observations and reason for 5 star rating…||||The boats provided are Princecraft, 14’ Yukon edition boats with new 20Hp 4 strokes. Good quality Hummingbird sonar included, live well, flat floor and were very stable and easy to fish from. Swivel seats mounted on the bench seats. A net is in each boat but suggest you bring your own if you want to properly manage a larger fish. Every morning around 6am the staff fills your gas tank so you’re ready to go. These boats are on Beauchene Lake, back lakes have boats staged at each lake, you bring a provided electric trolling motor and two batteries to fish those lakes. Excellent equipment. It was never an issue to get some fishing advice from whomever was in the office that day. Nice little tackle shop in the office with anything you may have forgotten.||||All Inclusive / Dining area – The dining area is in the main White house, its well laid out and it has a nice ambiance for a fishing resort. Various replica fish mounted on the walls. Breakfast is ordered à la carte, basically anything you want. Every breakfast we had was excellent and perfectly cooked. Lunch is a choice of box lunch to go (sandwich) or you can come back to the dining room for lunch. We did both, much prefer eating back in dining room as a sandwich isn’t the greatest after sitting in a cooler for 4 plus hours. We didn’t do a shore lunch, our paid guide day it was raining, and shore lunch isn’t possible when it is raining. We ate 3 lunches in and 3 out in the boat. Of the 3 in the restaurant, 2 were very good and 1 was average. Dinners were the highlight of the dining experience, always a 4-course dinner, soup, salad, main course and then a choice of deserts. Soups and Salads were always exceptional, different every day and always fantastic. My son loved all his mains, there were 2 nights when I wasn’t able to eat the main, Chef Gary prepared an alternative meal for me on those evenings. If this were a high-end restaurant review I would have some commentary about a few of the mains, but this is a fishing resort and for the most part the food was excellent and very enjoyable. There wasn’t a day that went by when we were still hungry or unsatisfied. The staff looking after the tables were excellent, very friendly, and nice people. Bonus is the ice maker just off the dining room. Free unlimited ice sure came in handy every day. The Bar area is more of a separate room off the dining room with a nice pool table and a number of comfortable chairs. There is a decent selection of liquors in a bar area and guests complete a drink slip for anything they consume. It’s the honour system. It was always quiet when we were there.||||Fishing – We really wanted to target the Trout, Lake Trout, Brook Trout and Splake. It did not disappoint. We caught fish very day, some good-sized Lake trout 5 – 8 Lbs, caught both trolling and jigging on Lac Beauchene. We caught Brook trout on the one day we went out to a Brook Trout back lake and we caught Splake on the day we went to a Splake back lake. We also caught, Walleye, Pike, and Bass. We spent most of our time fishing for Lake trout, but it was obvious the Bass and Walleye fishing was excellent. Overall, the fishing at Beauchene is excellent. It’s not just marketing. Back lakes are booked out by guests in advance, you will have a back lake to yourself when you book it. My son and I fish frequently, we are experienced fishermen but certainly not experts by any means. If you’re a beginner or novice fisherman, consider a guide for more than one day.||||Guides – We had arranged for a Lake trout guide on our first full day, even though we had 50ml of rain that day we had a great time. Our guide Harry was a great character, very easy to chat with, very knowledgeable and really knew his stuff. We learned a lot about Lake trout fishing that day and having Harry as our guide really made a miserable weather day a really fun day. If you’re not a regular fisherman you may want to consider having a guide booked for more than one day as the lake is quite large. We did observe other guides interacting with clients and were very impressed. We chatted with one guide who was taking a group out that had a young child, he had never caught a fish before. The guide had rigged up the boys scooby-doo rod for bass. We saw them later that evening and the boy had caught his bass. First Class guides, no attitude, nice people, very knowledgeable and able to work with any level of angler.||||People / Atmosphere – Starting with Tony and on down through all of the staff that work at Beauchene, every person was wonderful to deal with. I think this is really important for creating a sense of comfort for the guests. Everyone is always happy to talk about fishing and how you did that day, everyone is extremely helpful not matter what you need. The lake and the grounds are beautiful. Very well kept and clean. ||||To sum it up, this was a wonderful experience for my son and I, we enjoyed everyday regardless of weather and we caught fish every day. The entire experience was very memorable, and I am glad that we decided to spend a little more to go to Beauchene, it was well worth it and I hope we will be able to go back again next year. Thank you to all at Beauchene for a wonderful time.

I found this beautiful wilderness lodge by chance when it popped up on my Facebook feed. ||As a last minute decision I booked three days as a birthday present for my eldest son and my father and it turned into a “boys” fishing trip for 4.. ||While this is not a cheap trip by any stretch of the imagination, it is money well spent. ||The lodging is well kept, clean and cozy. The food made by the chefs is excellent and they cater to reasonable requests made by guests. ||Tony, the manager, went out of his way to speak with guests at dinner each night to make sure their stay was comfortable and to see how the day’s fishing had been.. he is cut from a cloth of Inn Keepers that actually cares about guests and wants to make sure that your stay is memorable. The rest of the staff are equally impressive. ||I highly recommend this beautiful lodge to anyone looking to escape the city to spend some time fishing and relaxing. ||Thank you Tony and staff for a fantastic stay!
