Le site de kayak en eau vive de la ville de Salaberry-de-Valleyfield est exceptionnel.
La rivière Saint-Charles est bien aménagée pour l’entraînement de kayakistes de tous les niveaux. Le bas de la rivière est plat et parfait pour les débutants alors que plus on monte, plus il y a de dénivellations et d’obstacles. Les athlètes des niveaux intermédiaire et avancé s’y plaisent.
Ce site de kayak, entièrement aménagé artificiellement, au cœur du centre-ville, a un débit d’eau contrôlé toute l’année en plus d’être éclairé. On peut donc y naviguer toute l’année d’autant plus qu’il est libre de glace en tout temps.
Il n’est alors pas étonnant que le site soit reconnu comme le Centre provincial d’entraînement pour le kayak de slalom en rivière.
