Our family had the pleasure of taking a sunset cruise with Captain Mike a couple of weeks ago, and it was truly one of the most memorable experiences we've ever had on vacation. We got lucky with perfect weather (sunny skies, calm seas, and breathtaking views), but what made the evening extraordinary was Mike himself.
From the moment we stepped aboard, it felt like reconnecting with an old friend. Mike is warm, funny, and genuinely one of the kindest souls you’ll ever meet. He took us along a scenic stretch of coastline and past quiet islands where we spotted seals, bald eagles, and other wildlife. The whole experience was peaceful, awe-inspiring, and filled with laughter and good conversation.
We stepped off the boat with full hearts—grateful not just for the beauty of the evening, but for feeling like we made a friend along the way. We’re still dreaming about buying that remote house on the coast (you know the one, Mike!), getting a boat of our own (we haven’t stopped thinking about that navy one in the harbor), and somehow becoming part of the incredible community that he and Kristi represent so well.

Amazing experience! Our family spent the afternoon with Captain Mike on the water and it was one of the best memories of our trip. He is so welcoming and kind. We caught crabs for our supper and saw some incredible wildlife. The weather was amazing and he taught us a lot about fishing, wildlife and history in the area. Our friend suggested a private fishing charter instead of whale watching and we are SO glad we chose to head out on the water with Haida Gold. Definitely recommend this trip; it was relaxing, fun and great for a family afternoon (without crowds of people!). Be sure to check out his stunning artwork as well.

Some buddies and I recently went on a morning fishing outing with Haida Gold, and to say it was awesome would be an understatement. I rarely do reviews of anything, but I had no choice, as this experience left me wanting to spread the word. Everything was great from booking with Kristi to Captain Mike filleting the fish. Mike's knowledge (we had a fish on the line within 10 minutes of leaving the marina), personality (kept us laughing with many stories) and his humble nature made for a world class experience. I cannot say enough great things about Haida Gold! Kristi was patient at answering all of our questions and getting us all set up to go. Captain Mike was absolutely amazing! The time on the boat just flew by. We had such a great time fishing and Mike shared so much local knowledge of the island. You can tell he truly loves what he does! You will not be disappointed if you book with Haida Gold. If we ever make it back to the island, we will be booking with Kristi and Mike! Spectacular experience and helped Chris to check one more thing off of his bucket list!

Had a truly fantastic time with Captain Mike. He was so friendly and so good with all of our young kids (who talked his ear off the entire time). Everyone caught a fish! It was also a beautiful calm day and we saw orcas, seals and eagles. They were also great about helping us pick the best day weather-wise to go out which we really appreciated. We would absolutely go out fishing with them again. And for any art lovers, ask Captain Mike about his carvings. He is super talented!
